Hello, and welcome to another edition of Digitalists new interview series:

Behind the Screens: Digital Art Masters

Through these interviews, we will get an in-depth look into the minds
and careers of DeviantART's most influential digital artists.

Today's featured artist is emilieleger

Emilie Leger is an artist from Montreal, Canada. She is mostly an illustrator, but she also works as a graphic designer. She specializes in digital art and mainly works with authors and music bands on book and CD covers. She also participates in some art exhibitions.

When did you first discover your passion for art?

I have had an interest in art forever. I have always tried to explore as many avenues as I could in the art field: visual arts, writing, drama, literature, music, etc. and I believe that we should always be open to discover and experiment.
How did you develop your wonderful painting style? What thoughts/feelings do you hope to convey to the viewer through your art?

I had an interest in technology which I found out I could merge with my urge to create. I have been working with digital art software for a few years and my aim is now to integrate more and more traditional art to it.

What is your favorite piece from your gallery and why?

Every artwork is or was significant for me in some way. I don't have a favorite one, but I have a preference in creating dark art for the range of emotions they evoke.

I noticed that you are also a writer. Is there a connection between your art and your writing?

Indeed, there is a connection between my visual works and what I write. One of my projects for 2015 is to publish my first novel, which I would also illustrate.

On a site as large as DeviantART, it can be very difficult for artists to reach a broad audience. What advice can you give to those who want to get their art noticed online?

I must admit I haven't been active on my DA account within the last year, but I would say that the idea is to post as much content as you can. Update your journal regularly, link to other artists and do some art features...post your own artwork.

Is there an artist on DeviantART whose work inspires you?

I love artist Michael Vincent Manalo from Ça:theflickerees.deviantart.com/. I like how he expresses and sees the idea of the dream.

Thank you emilieleger for sharing your wisdom and experience with the community!
